PsychologistOne of my primary career objectives is help people helping themselves. I see Psychotherapy as a powerful tool for self-assistance and personal growth. My primary mission as a psychotherapist is to encourage and assist people in finding ways to solve their emotional problems and develop more effective coping skills to deal with their issues. Through therapy, people may find help to improve self-esteem, obtain self-confidence that promotes a better quality life. Additionally, people may work on interpersonal relationship issues, fears, emotional conflicts, and traumas.
I had the privilege of being supervised by Dr. Salvador Minuchin (Structure Family Therapy). Through that experience, I learned how powerful is the family systems and how effective is to work with the core issues that may underlie individual emotional conflicts. I am Brazilian, and I had developed my skills to be sensitive to cultural diversity and the psychological impact of immigration on each individual. Additionally, living in the USA for over 17 years, I committed myself to promoting a mental health practice that is culturally sensitive and aware. Clinic info: Sage Counseling Services 13315 W. PsychiatristI am an English and Mandarin speaking Child & Adolescent and General Psychiatrist. I am passionate and committed to the wellbeing of children, families, and communities. I believe that comprehensive understanding of a person’s biological, psychological, familial, cultural, societal, and interpersonal origin is the key for successful treatment of mental health conditions. We are still at the very early stage of appreciating the complex nature of mental illnesses and there is a great deal we can learn from the whole person approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
I have more than 10 years of clinical experience in treating child and adolescent mental health problems such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Autism, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorder, depression, and psychosis. I also have strong research and clinical background in ADHD, PTSD, and OCD. I finished medical school in China and worked at two medical universities in China before coming to US. I graduated from the General Psychiatry training program at Duke University and completed a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at UC Davis. I have worked at academic and community settings in Singapore, Canada, and the United States. I love nature and enjoy hiking, biking, and walking. I love reading and learning. Working in the garden and watching children playing are the most peaceful activities for me.
